Awareness-raising and dialogue

As part of its programme Pilot use of principles guiding new investments in agriculture, the IAWG organizes awareness-raising and dialogue events in several African countries. The IAWG already hosted workshops in Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Senegal and Tanzania. This activity, which is led by FAO, aims at providing the foundation for the development of policies and investment strategies that favour mutually beneficial investment outcomes.

Raising awareness and giving voice to those actually concerned

The workshops raise awareness about good practices and guidance instruments that promote responsible investment in agriculture, in particular the CFS Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems and the OECD-FAO Guidance for Responsible Agricultural Supply Chains. By giving voice to those actually concerned, the IAWG increases its own knowledge about the needs and priorities of different stakeholders. These insights are shared with the broader public through workshop reports.

Stimulating dialogue among different stakeholders

The events furthermore aim to improve the national dialogue between different stakeholders in each country. The workshops thus contribute to the establishment of a community of practice in which national stakeholders can cooperate and hold informed discussions about context specific challenges and opportunities of agricultural investment.
